Meanwood is a suburb of Leeds, previously known as a place of industry from the sixteenth century right up until the 1900s with Meanwood Beck providing power for a range of mills, dye works and tanneries. It was during the nineteenth century together with the decline of industry that Meanwood saw an evolution of terraced houses leading to Headingly and Woodhouse. Today Meanwood has developed into a primarily residential suburb with plenty of character enriched by listed building, suburban housing and local amenities including shops and restaurants.
